I simply love Urban Outfitters. The other day, my friend Katy and I went to see a movie at the mall. I dragged her into Urban so I could try on a little flowery dress I saw in the window. She painfully watched and flatly told me it was nice. Um. Am I too old to love Urban at this point? Hmmm…
House in transition
Our ugly stone entryway and parquet family room floors were ripped up today! Yay! Tomorrow they are jackhammering the ugly hearth on our fireplace that matched the ugly stone entryway. No more ugly! Our house is a crazy mess, with furniture pushed into random rooms and plastic tarps covering everything to keep the dust off…but I’m excited that we are finally starting to redo this...

So I’m trying a Skinny Girl Margarita. It’s not so fulfilling. I guess that’s why it’s skinny. I love you, Bethenney, but I’m going to stick to my fat girl frozen swirls.
For dinner....
I’m making brown rice and chickpeas with spicy vindaloo sauce and a side of saag. Yum! I LOVE indian food.

I like this story of unconventional living…I could be happy there too.
I weigh 13 pounds more today than on my wedding...
I had gazpacho and salad for dinner. And some of Matt’s smoked chicken. I did well tonight. Pat on the back. No more over-eating and no more drinking alcohol during the week. Which is sad, because it’s summer, and I love a cold Paulaner with lemon on a hot patio. Or a cold frozen margarita. Or a glass of room temperature wine, I don’t care. Drinking on a patio is fun!...

Another example of me hating to be on film. Ha! My husband is sneaky.
Happy Birthday to me!
10 years ago I turned 21! Whoa. 10 years?! Yes! I was living in Spain, partying at a club in Madrid with my girlfriends, and a cute Spanish boy gave me a baby bunny for my birthday present. Today I turned 31. I’m living in Dallas, I had lunch with a girlfriend, and I’m waiting on my handsome husband to get home from work to celebrate. Life just flies by. I’m so thankful and...
Tomorrow is my 31st birthday.
Ahhhh, I’m oldz. Well, not really oldz, but certainly no longer of the age where my youth could be an excuse for any of my actions. I’m a grown up. I had better start behaving.
Let’s review what this past year has been like since I turned 30. I got married (yay!). Due to our marriage, we took the first vacation I have had in 7 years that did not involve going to visit...

Argghhh! Incredible ignorance! I will go and hold a colored umbrella if they come to Dallas. And that will be sooooo intimidating, I’m sure. Ridiculous.
I am proud of myself.
Today I have been to CVS, Whole Foods, done laundry, baked banana bread and boiled eggs for the week. My Sundays are normally not so productive.

Yay, we are going to Local tomorrow for my early birthday dinner! I love this restaurant. It was the scene of one of our early and worst dates (my fault! I was day drinking on a sunny patio all day pre-date!) We have been back several times in much happier moods :) The food is creative and delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is New York! What could be better? I’m...

Amazing. She says, “I’ve never ever been able to stand to see anything suffering, not even insects…” Me too. I wish there were more people like this in the world. It’s defeating, but I feel like most people just don’t care about the world around them. Most only care about themselves. It is nice to hear of people like Deborah, who do more than their part to...

Our friend Lawrence’s father. We attended this funeral today. It was very sad to see Lawrence and Katy and the other family members upset, but everyone who spoke had beautiful things to say. He was very well loved and will obviously be missed.
Cookin'! Me.
I’m making hard boiled eggs for the first time ever! After much repeated instructions from my mom over the phone. I think there’s like 3 steps, but whatever. I’m not hardwired like that. I’m burning new neuron pathways in my brain as we speak. I hope they turn out ok. My husband will be so proud :)
Yikes
I just listened to the leaked Mel Gibson audio tapes and they are super disturbing. Also disturbing is the familiar pattern of conversation between the domestic verbal abuser and his target. I swear that I had many of the same sort of conversations where I just remained calm and slightly annoyed while listening to my lunatic boyfriend go crazy on me until he was utterly exhausted. Like raging,...

I am obsessed with this creepy house today. I saw it on the Travel Channel and I want to go visit it!
Immediately following Spain’s win, my husband switched the channel to women’s golf. I really can’t imagine anything more boring to watch. And he played golf all morning. What an incredibly boring day. Golf followed by golf on tv. Clearly, we don’t share this hobby ;)
It is so humid today.
Like, Ohio Black Swamp humid. Yick. So much for enjoying the outside. It was nice while it rained last night, but today is un-doable. I was cranky on our morning walk because of it. Lunch today will have to be inside, not on a patio. And then I will run from home decor store to home decor store to keep in the air conditioning as much as possible.
Oh, the husband just handed me a hazelnut...
I have loved my evening outside so much! I have Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World running through my head right now. That’s what happens when you live in Texas and can’t open your windows for fresh air from March through September. A little bit of rain and clean air go right to your head. Or maybe it’s in combo with my Pinot Noir ;)
